It's a launching appliance used for launching a freefall lifeboat by ramp. It applies a corresponding specification freefall lifeboat. Its typical appliance equips a winch and a jib used for recovering and controlled launching a lifeboat. A part of the appliances only contains a ramp, recovering lifeboat, and the secondary means of launching depend on border crane. Usually, the launching appliance of a free-fall lifeboat is installed on the stern of the ship and also can install on the offshore platform.

The design of the launching appliance of a free-fall lifeboat confirms the requirements of the “1974 SOLAS MSC.47(66) and international LSA Code MSC.48(66)，and also can be approved by the CCS classification society. These inspections and tests of the appliance with the testing of life-saving appliances MSC.81(70) and MSC.226(82).
