What is Lifeboat?
A lifeboat is a kind of escape tool with certain buoyancy, strength, speed, the capability of carrying a certain number of people, and a relatively complete range of required items. The main function of the lifeboat is to help the crew members and passengers escape from the distressed ship when the ship is in distress, so as to facilitate survival activities at sea and ensure the safety of the crew members and passengers.
Today's ships are equipped with enough life-saving equipment for the personnel on board. Whether it is an enclosed lifeboat on a luxury cruise ship or a tail-throwing lifeboat on a cargo ship, the spare parts inside are the same.
In fact, what a lifeboat needs to be equipped with is written in the LSA CODE Convention (LSA CODE: International lifesaving appliance code). The equipment described above in the LSA CODE is well known: life jackets, lifebuoys, immersion suits, smoke signals, etc., but we are talking about lifeboats here.
Things lifeboat should be equipped with
According to the convention tell us: The lifeboat must be capable of sailing for 24 hours at 6 knots fully loaded (or 2 knots when towing a 25-person liferaft).

If the lifeboat engine fails, there need to be enough paddles to ensure that the boat can move forward when the weather is calm. Tail-throwing lifeboats do not need to be equipped with paddles.
Before you enter the boat, the first thing you need is seasickness medicine, which requires everyone to have enough effect for 48 hours. Seasickness medicine is very important, it can help you reduce water loss.
Don't feel that you should not take it if you are not seasick. If one person in the boat is seasick, a chain reaction may start and others will be affected. So not only for yourself but for the rest of the boat, remember to take your seasickness pills.

When you are ready to lower the lifeboat, the lifeboat should be equipped with two cables. One of them is to fix the position of the lifeboat, and the other spare cable can be used as a rope for towing the liferaft or other purposes.

When you have entered the water in a lifeboat, you should now think more about how to use the lifeboat to escape. If you know where the land is, you can use a compass to guide you in the right direction.
But if you don't know where the land is, the best strategy is to wait for rescue near the ship in distress, as that's where the rescue team will begin their search.
If the weather turns bad while you are waiting for rescue, you need to put the anchor in the sea. Putting the sea anchor on the bow of the boat can keep the boat stable and reduce the speed of the boat floating away. You can also use spare cables and buckets to make an emergency sea anchor if the sea anchor breaks.
When you notice the rescue team is approaching you, use the equipment to get the rescue team's attention.
Smoke and flares are all props that should be equipped. If it is during the day, you can also use a reflector. At night, you can use a waterproof flashlight to communicate at sea through Morse code. Don't forget the whistle, which is also a very practical tool.
If the rescue team does not find you within a short period of time, make sure the rescue boat has enough food and water to help you survive at sea. Make sure that everyone in the boat has at least 3 liters of freshwater or a desalination device. To measure the amount of water, the boat should be equipped with a graduated measuring cup.
Equipped with enough food can maintain your energy consumption while waiting for rescue. But if the boat is equipped with escalators and fishing gear, you can try to supplement your food by fishing, but eating raw fish can easily make you short of water, so it is not recommended to eat raw fish if there is not enough water.
You can always bring some extra water and food in the rescue boat to ensure that you can survive at sea in the event of an accident, and if you bring a lot of canned food, don't forget the can opener!
Lifeline, insulation kit, first aid kit, fire extinguisher, fire axe, sailor knife, repair kit, etc., every spare requirement required by LSA CODE can be said to help you consider everything.
Of course, professional rescue boat manufacturers will also provide you with a special lifesaving manual to help you prepare everything, so friends, if you have the fate to read this article, read it patiently, don't underestimate anything in it, maybe It's the one that saves your life in critical moments.
