 1. Engine starting

① Two main power switches are on the center of the console, first turn either one of them to the “ON” position to supply power to the instrument panel and fuse/switch panel. Then the buzzer will sound.

② Move the speed/transmission lever to the neutral position.

③ Push the “START” button to start the engine. After the engine has started, the alarm will stop sounding. The alarm will sound again if the water temperature or the oil pressure is wrong.

④ Should the engine fail to start due to poor battery condition, turn on the second main power switch and repeat the starting procedure.

⑤ If the engine fails to start within 15 seconds, despite good battery condition, release the start switch and investigate the cause (see "Fault Finding" in the engine manual ). The starter motor should be allowed to cool for at least 30 seconds before attempting to restart.

⑥ In very cold weather (blow approrant -15°C), it could be necessary to increase the glowing time to approrant 30 seconds and run the starter motor for up to 1 minute.

Note: In cold areas where the use of antifreeze coolant should be   added to ensure that the diesel engine is not frozen at low temperatures and to prevent the cooling system from corrosion.

2. Operation after starting

① If one or more alarm lamps does not go out, or lights up when the engine runs, the engine should be stopped at once to find the fault.

② When all functions are normal, engage the transmission by pushing the engine control lever forward or aft.

③ Increase the speed gradually if possible, allowing the engine to warm up, before going full speed. In case of emergency, the lever can be moved into full speed position immediately.

3. Engine stop

① Move the engine control lever into the neutral position.

② Allow the engine to run at idle speed for approximately 2 minutes to cool.

③ Stop the engine by pulling the stop rope.

4. Charging the lifeboat batteries

The totally enclosed lifeboat is equipped with two independent maintenance-free engine starting batteries. Charging the batteries in the stowed position is done automatically by one chargers mounted in the lifeboat. While the lifeboat is maneuvering both batteries will be re-charged.

The condition of the batteries can be determined by the indicator eye located on the top of the batteries. The indicator is a round clear piece located next to the positive terminal that changes color as the power in the battery changes. In low light conditions, a flashlight is useful to check the indicator color.

5. Emergency steering

In case of failure of steering system, it is possible to use an emergency tiller inserted directly onto the rudder stock. The emergency tiller is stored in the aft end of the canopy near the after hook

The following procedure should be noticed:

On the command of the helmsman, a crewman fits the spare tiller into the rudder stock fully. All steering is now done by the emergency steering tiller. The helmsman should give directions.

6. Rowing

In case the engine fails to run it is possible to row the boat by using two oars. Rowlocks are provided on one side by the doors.
